Well, here I present the Lava flow from three different times. The darker one is the younger lava flow is from the 1907 eruption, the lighter one I'm standing in is from 1887 eruption and the one back behind in the slope is believed to be 750-1,500 years old.
One simple way to have an estimate on how old the lava flow is, the younger lava is always darker in color and the older one is lighter in color. The elder it becomes the rate of spotting larger Lehua trees will increase.
